Damen supports Triton Submarines
Using Triton’s new superyacht-optimised Triton 1650/3 submersible, supported by Damen Shipyards and its 55m support vessel New Frontiers, the first public demonstration dives of the new submersible have taken place in the Balearic Islands. Here, more than 20 dives were performed during the course of the four-day event, which follows the opening of Triton’s EMEA Service Centre in Barcelona, which provides technical support.
“It is significant that the first public demonstration dives of the Triton 1650/3 submersible were held here in Europe,” says Triton’s President, Patrick Lahey. “With the opening last week of our EMEA Service Centre in Barcelona, the collaboration we announced at the Monaco Yacht Show, and now the ground-breaking dives in the Balearics, Triton continues to demonstrate our commitment to the region and to pushing the boundaries of what people expect from a luxury personal submersible.”
Damen Shipyards, Triton’s strategic partner, supported the dives with its latest Yacht Support vessel, 55m New Frontiers, which has 190 square metres of deck space and carrying capacity. In order to launch and retrieve the submersibles, the crew put New Frontiers’ 12-ton deck crane into action.
“Submersible operations have been a core specification for almost all the Yacht Support vessels we have delivered,” says Mark Vermeulen, Damen Yacht Support Product Director. “All around the world adventurous owners use their Yacht Support vessels for both superyacht support and dive site prep, weekend dive excursions, as well as charter operations. New Frontiers takes it a step further, blending support functions with stand-alone owner and guest accommodation – it’s the perfect platform for unforgettable luxury submersible adventures.”
During the demonstration, representatives from Triton’s technology, design and engineering partners, Aston Martin, with whom, Triton is currently developing a new high-performance and ultra-luxurious submersible codenamed Project Neptune.
Both Triton Submarines and Amels are headline partners of The Superyacht Forum, held from 13 – 16 November in Amsterdam. To find out more and register to attend, click here.
