Triton: Embracing new technologies

Having recently announced the sale of two new Triton 3300/3 submersibles and a series of demonstration dive offs in Lyford Cay, Nassau, it is safe to say that Triton Submarines are having a very exciting year thus far. Now approaching The Superyacht Forum in great anticipation, this year’s event will see Triton announce exclusive news to the industry, as well as inspire the market to thinking about the newest technical advancements.

“We have some exciting announcements to make this year” says Patrick Lahey, president of Triton Submarines.“[TSF] is an immensely valuable event; an opportunity to interface with people in the industry that I need to make an impact with”.

This year will mark Triton’s 10 - year anniversary, and the past decade has shown the popularity of submersibles expanding in and outside of the market. Triton Submersibles were recently featured in discovery documentaries, being used as essential researching engines in scientific research for the underwater world, working with the likes of David Attenborough.

Explaining his dislike for the word “toys” to refer to submersibles, Lahey understands that it does not take away from their function to improve the yachting experience; “These amazing pieces of equipment that they put on vessels to enhance their abilities make the yachting experience that much richer or more interesting. When you consider the type of boats that are being built today and kind of yachting people are doing, the new modern yachting person is quite different to the yachting public of the past”.

The modern world has shown itself to be fast and digital with no intention of slowing down.  As more technological developments are introduced, it puts demands on the industry to incorporate these new technologies into industry-specifc products. Lahey reveals how he is seeing an industry that is having to adapt itself to modern day advancements.

“I’ve seen these same sweeping changes, and I think a lot of it is driven by the emergence of these new technologies…things that the yacht owners are embracing, and now the yacht manufacturers are having to figure out how to incorporate them into their vessels. It is changing design; customers are insisting on these things and if the customers want them that means the yacht designers and manufacturers have to figure out the best ways to incorporate them into the vessels”.

Incorporating new technologies and designs comes as an important topic for The Superyacht Forum this year. The theme of the event is a 10 – year blueprint, which will aim to look into the minds of future client bases and what new concepts will impact the superyacht market. The resulting discussions will improve new business models and use forward-thinking methods that will meet the demands of the next generation of owners.

“The experiences that people have on motor yachts has become a critically important part of the industry. It would be useful for the yacht designers, yacht manufacturers, and those who represent buyers to possibly dig further and learn more about these technologies - how these ancillaries systems and equipment can dramatically enhance the ownership experience of a yacht” adds Lahey.

The Superyacht Forum is delighted to be partnering once again with Triton Submarines. The event will look to debate the current issues and trends within the market, whilst aiming to build a smarter industry with knowledge that will provide the best business practices to adapt to the changing global landscape.
