Four of the industry’s superyacht business leaders including board members of the Superyacht Builders Association – SYBAss, will participate in a state of the industry address, including an opening session delivered by the editorial team at The Yacht Report that highlights the current state of the superyacht industry from a build and market expansion perspective. The SYBAss members will air their views on the next generation of the business, what should change or needs to change in order to develop the long-term sustainable growth of this rapidly changing marketplace. Questions will be put to the panel by the chair, plus there will be an opportunity for the delegates to debate further the future of the large yacht business.

In addition, she will provide a personal account of how she sees the market evolving over the next decade.

 Following on from last year’s debate and the recent Captain’s Breakfast in Monaco, this session will look at the major issues created by the lack of qualified, technically aware crew, coupled with the arrival of the ILO working directives which will impact the design and build of crew accommodation. This workshop session will attempt to define the ways the industry has to work with the MLC Directive and ensure that the right level of input and feedback prevents the arrival of an unworkable piece of legislation.

A series of briefing sessions will deliver snapshot reports on what is on the horizon or currently being planned for future implementation. Regulations and conventions that are imminent and those that are several years in evolution will be raised and discussed for the benefit of delegates, including an update from the morning’s ILO / MLC session, plus details of the imminent Bunker Convention, Long Range Identification Tracking and the various Coatings directives.

A diverse team of experienced players in the large yacht arena will discuss the age-old problem of managing expectations, from the perspective of quality. Paint system issues, interior quality versus cost, engineering system integration and other key areas of the overall finished project will be discussed and debated, with a view to defining the way in which standards and quality of a final delivery can be improved and bench marked. The session will also discuss contracting practices and the risks of current practice being adopted by some of the large shipyards where ultimately this leads to some poor performing parts, systems and solutions on yachts, fuelled by misunderstanding.
